The Modern Stove

A test kitchen with a very fast stove.

Recipes developed by machine, edited by people, and published only when they're worth your weeknight.

The promise

Every recipe on this site is developed, tested against a set of editorial standards, and reviewed by a human editor before it's published. No filler stories, no keyword soup, no scrolling past someone's summer in Tuscany to find out how much salt goes in. The headnote tells you why the dish works; the card tells you how to make it.

How a recipe gets made

We're honest about this part: the first draft of every recipe comes from an AI test kitchen we've built and tuned — it balances flavor, picks the technique that fits the ingredient, and writes the method. Then the humans take over. Editors review each draft, cook what needs cooking, fix what needs fixing, and reject what isn't good enough. What you see published is the version that survived.

The same kitchen will soon take requests. Tell it what's in your fridge, what you're craving, and how much effort you're up for — and it develops a recipe just for you. Here's how that will work.

How we write

Like a working cook who teaches well. Recipes here have opinions ("use thighs — breasts dry out before the glaze sets"), sensory cues instead of just timers, and steps you can read with wet hands and a phone at arm's length. If a step needs a why, it gets one clause, not a paragraph.
